I think there might be a game today. This is from the roof of my lab. I can see the top of the big screen so it’s easy to see Varitek and Wakefield walk out from under the big flag … Continue reading →

Red Sox Opening Day Prediction
Apr 5th, 2012 by Paul T Morrison posted in Good Morning Gloucester, Things to do
This is one season I am not predicting anything. My sister thinks I am Beaker right now looking at the Red Sox crashing an burning out of the gate. But 162 games later The Sox could end up with that … Continue reading →
How Does Curt Schilling Get Inducted Into The Red Sox Hall of Fame and Not Pedro Martinez?
Mar 29th, 2012 by Joey C posted in Baseball, Curt Schilling, Gloucester Sports, Good Morning Gloucester, Hall of Fame, Pedro Martinez
I just read on the Eagle Tribune’s Smitty on Baseball that that Curt Schilling will be inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame. Looking at the list of inducted players I see that Pedro Martinez isn’t in there. How … Continue reading →
What a difference a year makes.
Mar 13th, 2012 by Paul Morrison posted in Fenway Park, Good Morning Gloucester, Things to do
What a difference a year makes. Last year Fenway was full of snow but Sox were preseason favorites to win the World Series. This year it is sunny almost 70F and they are picked to inhabit the basement of the … Continue reading →
Ted, say it ain’t so!

Theo is going to the Cubs today?
Screw that, I’m taking my duck back to the island.
Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter is taking a lot of heat around here and the New York area for his comments about Derek Jeter and Theo Epstein. Here were the quotes … On Jeter: “Our guys are thinking, ‘Wow, (Buck is) screaming…
GMG at Fenway!
Mar 15th, 2011 by Paul Morrison posted in Fenway Park, GMG Represents, Good Morning Gloucester
I was driving in past Fenway Park this morning and as I moseyed down Lansdowne Street something strange was happening. The sky seemed to be flashing yellow, then magenta, then the next moment it would be pure Red Sox red. … Continue reading →
Fenway Park getting ready for the Yankees on Friday April 8th
Feb 18th, 2011 by Paul Morrison posted in Fenway Park, Good Morning Gloucester, Things to do
The new Center Field scoreboard is the most obvious new feature to Fenway Park. This morning they lowered the last black panel of screen into place. It’s hard to see what it is made of because it is so black … Continue reading →
Red Sox Truck Day Today!
Feb 8th, 2011 by Paul Morrison posted in Good Morning Gloucester, Things to do
Wally the Green Monster will be down on Yawkey Way to see the Red Sox truck off today at noon. Another GMG reporter will have to be assigned as I got dragged up to Sunday River skiing and might not … Continue reading →
I have to note that the criticism of John Lackey will be “lacking” this week because the Red Sox starter has come through again.
I personally believe this is the best free agent signing by Theo Epstein and will be proven out when the Red Sox make the playoffs — not sure if it will be [...]
I received a lot of emails, messages and even an angry phone call about my Top 10 Boston sports icons (athletes, coaches and builders).
There were a few themes involved in the messages I received:
1. Ted Williams should have been higher (1st, 2nd or 3rd instead of 4th).
My answer: I could be inclined to move him [...]
Rice is in … I interviewed him at his Andover home
Jan 12th, 2009 by Bill Burt posted in Burt Talks Sports
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more content Jim Rice.
He walked out of his Andover townhouse on Andover Country Club and met with a few TV stations and myself for a quickie interview.
A few of the details:
He got the big phone call at about 1:20 p.m., which is 40 minutes before it officially became [...]
I don’t bet, at least any more, but if I did I would wager on Jim Rice getting the call from Cooperstown, N.Y. in just over two hours.
What are your thoughts? Is Jim Rice a Hall of Famer?
I say it’s a close call. I would lean toward saying yes. My Readers’ Digest version is he [...]
Some weekend thoughts while waiting for Jim Rice announcement
Jan 12th, 2009 by Bill Burt posted in Burt Talks Sports
Here’s a column that ran in today’s Eagle-Tribune
It was another eventful weekend of sports, here and everywhere.
There was the annual college football playoff debate. There was the NFL draft debate. There was another disheartening Celtics loss. And there was another dominating Bruins win.
And lest we forget about our teams on vacation, the Red Sox and [...]
ESPN.com report: Teixeira signs with Yankees
Dec 23rd, 2008 by Bill Burt posted in Burt Talks Sports
Wow.
Shocking might not be strong enough. This is going to take some time to digest.
Mark Teixeira, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com has agreed to an 8-year, $170 million contract with the New York Yankees.
It is almost funny. The fact that the Yankees don’t need a first baseman — they just acquired Nick Swisher from [...]
